Tested on Australian connections

Side by side

Six of the eight, on one screen.

Genre, who you need to play with, how long a sitting runs and whether it works with the connection off. The full table, including the two entries that scored lowest, sits on the compare page.

Games are ordered by editorial score. Platforms, players and offline support were read from each publisher's own store listing in September 2026; sitting length is what we measured across our own sessions rather than a figure anyone advertises.

How this place works

Six rules that make a score worth reading.

Three hours, minimum

Nothing gets a number until it has had a proper evening. Small sims get played to the end; pack games get at least three sittings, including one at the hours Australians actually play.

Nobody sees it first

No developer, publisher or PR agency reads a review before it goes live, and none of them has ever asked. The first time they see it is the same moment you do.

Nothing is sold on this site

No advertising, no affiliate links, no sponsored entries. There is nothing on any page that pays us, which is the only reason a 5.6 can sit next to an 8.3.

Every one is a wolf game

You play as a wolf, raise one, or lead a pack of them. A werewolf party game or a shooter with one wolf skin in it does not make the list, however popular it is.

Facts come from the source

Release year, platforms, install counts, age guidance and the store's own rating are read off the publisher's listing, and the date we checked sits under every review.

Written for one reader

Each review ends with who it is actually for. A 6.8 that works with no connection beats an 8.3 that needs one, and saying so is more useful than a ranking.

The process

From install to score in four steps.

One editor, no review copies, no embargoes to honour. The whole method fits on this screen deliberately.

01

Find it

Free to start, already released, and genuinely about wolves — playing as one, raising one, or leading a pack of them. Anything still marked coming soon waits its turn.

02

Play it properly

Three hours at minimum, on an ordinary Australian connection, at the hours you would actually be playing — which is when the pack servers are quietest.

03

Write the caveats first

The things that would annoy you go down before the praise does. If the caveats outweigh everything else, the game does not make the catalogue.

04

Re-check the facts

Platforms, install counts, age guidance and the store's own rating are read off the publisher's listing on the day the review publishes, and re-read when we revisit it.

Reader mail

What comes back to the inbox.

“Installed The Wolf on your say-so, ignored the pack for two evenings and nearly gave up. Third night I joined a group hunt and finally understood what you meant about strangers co-operating without a word. Been playing since.”

Daniel

Ballarat, VIC

“The offline article saved my flight to Perth. Nobody else bothers to mention that six of these stop dead without a connection.”

Priya

Newcastle, NSW

“My daughter wanted a wolf game and every list I found was thirty identical apps. Your age guidance column made the decision in about a minute — we went with The Evolution and she has not put it down.”

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Write to the editor

It is one editor's summary of a wolf game after at least three hours of play, weighted towards how it feels to sit down with rather than how much content it lists. A 7 is a good evening. An 8 is something we would recommend without qualifying it. The lowest entry in the catalogue sits at 5.6, and it is there on purpose.
